PlayStation 3 E3:Our Press Conference Impressions

Sony's Press Conference has come to a close with a tremendous amount of content including both first-party and third-party games and it's looking to be another great year for Sony, the PlayStation 3 and officially named PlayStation Vita (PSV).

I think that Sony's E3 Press Conference was the most anticipated of this year. Sure rumors of Nintendo's soon to be announced console have gamers on the edge of their seat, but I think even gamers wanted to see how Sony would address the issues with the PlayStation Network and what sort of content they would have on tap. It took Sony a little while to get up and going trying to get everyone seated giving them a late start that just drove the anticipation even more. When all finally got up and going the adrenaline kicked in.

Sony Computer Entertainment America's President and CEO Jack Tretton took the stage to address the PlayStation Network outage. The arena had a feeling of extreme heaviness as Tretton spoke of the issue and with everyone he had issued the apology and he did it well. I don't think there wasn't a person there that felt for him or Sony in the difficult time they had. Its clear that throughout the conference, it was still on Tretton's mind but as things moved on, he seemed to ease up more and more. It was all done very well and was easily forgiven and gamers wanted to really get on with things and see what Sony had in store for them.

Things couldn't have started out any better as Sony immediately whipped out the big guns beginning with Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception showing gameplay on a massive cruise ship showcasing the plethera of added animations to Drake as well as all the new dynamic lighting. The section in which Drake reaches the corner and you know there's a guy around it by his shadow and Nathan grabs him smacking his head into the wall and knocking him out cold. It also appeared that Naughty Dog had upped the anti with stealth and Co-President Evan Wells was seen sneaking up on guys and taking them out quickly and quietly. Sort of had a real Sam Fischer feel to the whole thing. I totally loved the section in while he throws the grenade which hits the missile turret looking thing causing and explosion and taking out the rear wall. It wasn't a dead end anymore.

The new trailer they had shown also had shown that both Elena and Chloe would make a return in the third game which really got us excited. We also noticed a ring on Elena's 'lock-down' finger and the interactions with Drake and Elena during that trailer suggests Elena and Drake are either engaged or married. All in all its great.

What we also learned was that you could get into the multiplayer action of Uncharted 3 sooner with a deal Sony has once again with Subway, which details we're still foggy on. This enables gamers to get rolling with the multiplayer in full in October a full month before the game even launches.

There were a lot of game trailers shown and InFamous 2 was one of them. As I recall, I don't think I've ever seen Sucker Punch at an E3 before live on stage but it really gets gamers pumped for the games release.

The new 3DTV that Sony had displayed was an excellent move and came bundled with a lot of great stuff for a really good price. Its clear that Sony are really wanting to push 3D and this a great way to introduce gamers 3D. The bundle includes: 24" 3D HDTV, HDMI cable, 1 pair of 3D glasses and Resistance 3 for only $499. There was also a Resistance 3 Move bundle pack which was stellar as well including the Sharp Shooter, Resistance 3, Move controller and PlayStation Eye for $150 and to finish off the section, a new Sly Cooper game was announced likely as the new IP Sucker Punch were doing that was rumored.

As far as remakes in HD go, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico were officially confirmed as well as the remakes for the PSP versions of God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta for the PS3.

Neither the PSP nor the PlayStation 2 were even mentioned in much detail. From there PlayStation Move and the now confirmed name PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Move took over the show. NBA 2K11 had shown move support, BioShock Infinite was announced announced to have Move support and could see the PSV a new game developed by the same team who created Sports Champions, and even the new MMO Dust.

The PlayStation Vita's showing turned out really well as great games were announced and shown with Uncharted, Street Fighter X Tekken and its introduction to include InFamous' Cole McGrath as well as Ruin utilizing the cloud save feature from the PSV to PS3.

Overall Sony had a excellent A show, though it lacked the huge surprise that they had been able to pull off in years past. Things felt a little scattered and didn't follow the same flow they had in years past either it seemed though it could have been the mood which was always the concern. Never-the-less, it was all great full of great games. Sony's arsanal of games continues on and into the upcoming years. The PlayStation Vita's pricing is on par where it was believed to be and will definitely be giving the 3DS a run for their money with 5X the power and all for the same price. Glasses free 3D alone isn't going to be the saving grace Nintendo may need and this could force Nintendo to drop the price of the 3DS.
