Sonic the Hedgehog Returns

Do you know what happens if you visit Google Images and type in the words 'Dying Hedgehog,' you know what comes up? I kid you not its this guy. Try it yourself. (Remember April Fools was six days ago so there's no way I'm pulling your leg)

Don't get me wrong, Sonic the Hedgehog is one of my absolute favorite characters and mascot to boot, to a point. I remember taking turns with my siblings racing frantically through the Emerald Hill Zone and even remember demolishing the Death Egg at the conclusion of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Many would argue it but I feel that Sonic the Hedgehog had plummeted after his Sega Dreamcast reign as I absolutely loved and still love to this day Sonic Adventures 2. I'm thoroughly convinced however that Sonic began his downturn the moment Sega decided to rename Dr. Robotnik to..... Dr. Eggman? What the? Why?

We all know what happened after the death of Sega however. Their creative flow ran dry, their biggest of talent had split, Peter Moore had gone to Microsoft and Sega became 'Sega Sammy.' Fortunately, Virtua Fighter hung around for a while and I can't deny that Sega still has some HOT! titles, but its all pretty much hit and miss with Sega. 'Sonic the Hedgehog' for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 was clunky, frustrating and broken (yet I still drove myself to complete it making me want to launch my 360 controller at the wall) and Sonic Unleashed almost had it right, believe it or not. Its when Sonic caught rabies that it was all downhill from there trying to imitate a sluggish 'God of War.' Even the remake seemed a little off. The physics and everything were totally weird and it probably made next to nothing and we'll never see the series come to a close, it'll remain as just Episode I.

Well, Sega has once again decided to step into the ring and milk Sonic the Hedgehog for whatever he's got left. I never got around to playing 'Sonic Colors,' but it seemed as though they may have worked out the kinks and stuck with the formula of the faster paced levels of Sonic Unleashed and taken Warehog out back and put a bullet through his head. Sonic Colors seemed to be a little more faithful much like its Nintendo DS 'Sonic Rush' brother that took it back to the days of the Sega Genesis. So yes, Sonic has opted to come back to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for another beating. What's more, Sega wants to have it out the door THIS YEAR!? Why so soon Sega? Don't you feel you might be over doing it? You can actually check out the trailer for the game right HERE.

Now, I could be wrong, but I'm going to assume that the psychology behind the two Sonics side-by-side means that Sega is trying to get the point across that they're attempting to take Sonic the Hedgehog back to his roots and we'll see that, but I think so many are so burnt out on Sonic, that the image Sonic once had of pounding the plumber down a toilet hole with his own plunger may have seen its end. Its all too much to fast. Sonic may be liking his wounds or even near death begging to see the end all, but they keep shoving him right back on stage.

Don't get me wrong, I love Sonic the Hedgehog as much as the next guy. Sega is what I grew up with. We didn't have a Nintendo. The only console we had other than the Sega Genesis was the Atari 2600 and I'm not going to pass judgement until we've seen what Sega's got, but with Sonics past track record, I'm leery on this one and Sega's going to have to do something pretty special to redeem themselves from so many other horrid titles. I guess we'll see as time goes on.

So, stay tuned for all this Sonic the Hedgehog and all other things gaming right here on ThumbDrive keeping you in the Gamer Zone.
