Going back to what was mentioned a while back concerning Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception and its use of stereoscopic 3D, it was interesting to hear them talk about how they have utalyzed the technology for their newest games. Naughty Dog, as with all others of Sony's first-party developers have always been about pushing the hardware even further with every game. Its no surprise that they would include 3D into Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception.
This video, that you can check out after the break, that I've posted comes from the PlayStation Blog website that you can click to go check out. Jeff Rubenstein is talking with Co-Lead Designer Richard Lemarchand concerning the introduction of the games villainess Katherine Marlow and how she compares with Lasarevic and Navarro from the previous Uncharted games, which you can check out more on, but I really wanted to focus more on Naughty Dogs implementation of 3D into the game. Richard talks about using stereoscopic and says that its something they've been working on for a while. I would dare say then, that Uncharted 3 was built with 3D in mind. However, there are those of us who are poor and don't have the money to shell out for a 3DTV. Especially since most people have just now or finally at some point were able to adopt a HDTV at all. But, it really seems as though we're not really left in the dust with nothing to expect or new to experience in the end.
We all know that we're going to get a great story as the games script was penned by none other than Amy Hennig of famed Uncharted, Jak 3 and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver fame and I wouldn't doubt for a second, that Gordon Hunt will be directing the game as was in the previous Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Naughty Dog wants this game to shine just as much as the last, and I think they'll be able to compare no problem. Whether they can top Uncharted 2 may not be possible as we already know a lot about the game already whereas Naughty Dog was tight lipped about Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and we didn't really expect anything. But, from a technical point of view, we're still getting something a little extra. Richard had mentioned what more they had to do with the PlayStation 3 and even went so far as to say they've christened the Engine Naughty Dog 3.0 and to me emphasized how important the new engine was to the success of Uncharted 3.
He had stated, pretty much, that the 3D versions of games are always going to take a hit somewhere regardless, but that they had actually upped the ante of the PlayStation 3's performance even more to accommodate what power the 3D would demand. He had also made mention that as a result, the new Naughty Dog Engine 3.0 would actually push the rendering performance of the 2D version of the game. Though I don't have a 3DTV right now, and surely won't be able to experience the 3D effect of this game for quite some time, I do know that Naughty Dog isn't going to let me down and is still striving to give me something more every single time. They don't quite seem sold on the PlayStation Move yet. In fact, Evan Wells (Co-President at Naughty Dog) seems partial to the Wii and isn't hesitant to admit that he likes it. But he'd also stated that Uncharted wasn't something they were interested in implementing PlayStation Move into. That they were still a pretty small team, but that if they were to do a PlayStation Move title, it would be built from the ground up and designed specifically around the PlayStation Move. All the same its really exciting news and sadly, its something we're going to have a very long time for still. Still a good nine months away. But you can expect to find it on 11-1-11. We certainly can't wait.
