Official PlayStation Magazine Speculates NGP Price

In the April 2011 Official PlayStation Magainze, they were able to play the upcoming Next Generation Portable from Sony Computer Entertainment. The words they had to describe it were: Sexy Figure, Go Live, Always On Line, Organic, Photo Finish, Backstroking, the Cartridge Is Dead, Move It, and In Control. They had also revealed the device's lack of UMD support in favor of the now used Memory Stick is suggested to expand the devices battery life to a guesstimated 3-6 hours.

The price point for the device was discussed as well as the numerous support the device would receive. The result of which was as such:

"From the beginning of the project, the price point for consumers was a consideration. So we made an effort to carefully choose parts and devices, and still be able to meet our target price." - Shuhei Yoshida
OPM suggests Sony had learned from the high price points of the PlayStation 3 as well as the PSP Go with the device ranging from $299.99 to $349.99 (depending on functionality of the device such as 3G support Not including what it could cost your for data plans through 3G support.) Software for the device is predicted to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $39.99 to $49.99. I would think Sony's first wave of games will settle at $39.99 to compete with Nintendo 3DS' $39.99 price tag.

 Sony NGP (Trophy Support YES!)

This information is contrary to information suggested earlier this month by an Ubisoft surveying site that suggested Sony could be competing directly with Nintendo and go straight for the throat by setting their MSRP at $249.99 for a WiFi Edition of the NGP and $349 with 3G Support.

Only time can tell as E3 draws closer and Sony lays out the pricing points of its next generation handheld. Hopefully, its the latter. E3 is scheduled for the first quarter of June in Los Angelas, CA and should be announcing some pretty amazing things as far as gaming news. Maybe even a release date for Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Regardless, it'll be a great show and will probably be geared toward the NGP (Officially named at E3), and PlayStation Move. For Nintendo the 3DS and a new Mario game and Microsoft to announce more support for the Xbox 360 Kinect. Its only a few months way.
