Sony Computer Entertainment's Kaz Harai has stated today that gamers will have to be a little more patient as the release of PlayStation Vita in the US and Europe won't be surfacing until early 2012. What exactly is Sony's strategy behind this release remains to be seen. PlayStation 3 gamers are likely to be busy with Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception throughout the holiday season as well as a mass of so many other titles hitting store shelves around the same time. It would appear Sony doesn't want the impact of their new hardware smothered by a plethera of gaming madness. I know that I myself am having to pick and choose my gaming experiences putting some titles on the back-burner and limiting myself to a game a month. Resistance 3 is taking a backseat to Gears of War 3, Batman: Arkham City taking a backseat to Twisted Metal. Seeing as how December is pretty dry however will be the month for those games, assuming they can pry the Uncharted 3 multiplayer from my death grip.
Kaz Harai has stated as well that there is no price drop planned for the PlayStation Vita. That $250 at launch still is an outstanding deal for the punch this baby packs and that just because Nintendo have chosen to drop the price on their hardware, doesn't mean Sony will need to as well. I agree at this point. We've heard nothing but positive press concerning the PlayStation Vita and the price point was spot on to the press. Its boasts more power and has a lot of functionality to back its price point and we're looking a solid release for the PlayStation Vita. Nintendo began the 3DS' quest on rocky ground and now they're having to make up for those mistakes. As the article written before this, Nintendo are finding their strategy poorly executed and its a rather depressing thought to hear they're looking to cut what sets the unit apart. Like the written article before, why should I then upgrade my handheld hardware?
That said, we can look forward to a solid release come early 2012 giving developers more time to polish their games and Sony more time to evaluate the content of the games being released. We noticed majority of those games are first-party titles. Sony needs a solid line-up of hardcore titles built with that signature Sony Seal of Quality. That Only On PlayStation experience and games like Uncharted, Wipeout, Resistance, Little Deviants, Super Stardust and so many others are a great start. The more games for the Vita's release, the better and the more polished, the more they'll be desired. Not to mention the recent info surfaced from Sony Computer Entertainment R&D concerning how Sony have chosen to deal with the Wii U using the PSV in a similar fashion. We're all looking forward to early 2012 though, we still can hope Sony will choose to launch earlier but, you need that time to market the device. (Where are the posters in AT&T?)
