Gears of War 3 Goes 3D

Microsoft, it would seem, are beginning to become believers themselves and Microsoft and Epic Games have just announced, yup, that Gears of War 3 will support Stereoscopic 3D. However, Epic Games Gears of War 3 Producer Rod Ferguson still sounds a little skeptical on the matter stating that 3D was put into the game later as the game wasn't originally designed with 3D support in mind. He also mentioned that rather than the game running at 720p, the game would be running at "Five-something" and jaggies will be noticeable so at least he's laying it out for us rather than on launch day wondering if they pulled a fast one on us. While he still claims it looks good, and obviously that the game running in non-3D will look excellent!

We've got to admit though that this worries us a little bit. Uncharted 3 has been shown running beautifully in 3D while it was designed from the ground up in 3D, we're feeling as though Microsoft is sensing some heat and possibly a bit of a threat from Sony's big behemoth releasing later this year as Microsoft approached Epic Games and requested it. Epic Games doesn't really seem too thrilled about the idea. Gears of War 3 is Microsoft's biggest release on the Xbox 360 this year and this holiday season while Uncharted 3 is Sony's. While we have no doubt Gears of War 3 looks great naturally, we'll see what comes of the 3D when the game launches next month. The 3D, will merely be a bonus though, we're interested none-the-less.
