Bleszinski and Evan Wells

Well, I was online checking out the Naughty Dog website where I came across this rendering of Uncharted 3's villainness Kathrine Marlow:

If this is what Marlow looked like in Uncharted 3, which when you see the shots of the trailer for Uncharted 3 of Drake and Sully, is quite possible, Uncharted 3 would hold the same title Uncharted 2 had as raising the bar.

What was interesting is that the Naughty Dog Website had a section of the top twitter tweets. Its not particularly surprising that you would find it there but Design Director of Epic Games Gears of War Cliff Bleszinski left a tweet concerning his beta. It read as follows:

“Just caught wind that [Naughty Dog] folks are checking out [the Gears of War 3] beta. I hope not. Their asses had better be finishing Uncharted 3 for us! ;)”

This could in fact be taken two different ways. The first being that he loves the series and is really anxious for the next installment in the series, right? The second is that he is a big fan of the series and the style of Uncharted 3 but, doesn't like the idea of the 'competition' peddling around his beta looking for idea's to include in their own game that could 'pose a threat.'

Though I have to admit, when I first read the tweet it was this that came to mind that its abundantly clear that Bleszinski doesn't like the PlayStation 3. He plays its games to understand the competition and read up on what he can include in his games on the Xbox 360. His dislike of glasses 3D, dislike of the PlayStation Move "I don't want more plastic cluttering my coffee table," he told Eurogamer "but I like the Kinect. Its sexy." Isn't that still more plastic? His dislike of the Dualshock 3 and I guess the reason he won't develop for the PlayStation 3. "I hate the controller.... But I love the blu-ray player." Its clear that whatever stab he can take at Sony, he's going to take it and wants to have nothing to do with it. Still, he knows its games and he knows a good game when he sees one and to beat the competition, you have to study the competition and sometimes, take from the competition. His evangelizing of the Xbox 360 furthers this theory of dislike and seems to want to develop exclusively for the Xbox 360. But ultimately, to this day Cliff Bleszinski has no plans to develop for the PlayStation 3 as a third-party developer and to speak of it, is a chore. In fact, you're likely to see Sony's PlayStation fanboy David Jaffe develop for the Xbox 360 whom owns his own third-party developing company known as Eat,Sleep,Play and has himself expressed interest in developing for the Xbox 360? Uncharted 3 does release two months after Gears of War 3.

Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog (A Sony owned first-party developer), responded to the tweet of Bleszinski's with the following:

“How could we not? Had a great time with it! But for now, back to work if you insist. Can we expect to see you in the [Uncharted 3] beta?”

Its clear that something exists between the two developers. Naughty Dog has expressed their relationship with other developers both third-party and first-party. Developer Bungie even managed its name display as Special Thanks in Uncharted 2's credits. Naughty Dog explains that they share what they've learned with other developers and talk with other developers of what they're doing. A lot of behind the scenes sort of thing. Gears of War is looking more Uncharted this time around actually and Naughty Dog even sent invite to Bleszinski to come check out their Uncharted special block party event at Sony's GDC party.
