Well, Crysis 2 had officially released for all three platforms. The game that Crytek promised would max out all consoles. Though we've heard this all before, never-the-less its out! Which version should I pick up so many have asked the question. The answer is definitely the PC version as it looks and runs the best if you've got a PC powerful enough to run it. But, what about my PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360? Well, that's where it gets more confusing. You want the absolute best out of the gaming experience on a console, and honestly, its really hard to find a direct answer. Everyone has a separate opinion. What you'll find on IGN is quite different than what you'll find through lens of truth or where ever else. Though I'm not a pro on the matter, here are some links that I've found through looking around. Again, IGN has said that the PlayStation 3 version appears to be running at a lower resolution from several who've been with him, but these screen shots and the video don't exactly seem to support that. Really, its hard too tell. I had a really tough time. My computer could handle the game, but I wanted to play it on a console this time around and went with the PlayStation 3 version as most my friends that game have a PlayStation 3. Take a look:
In the screenshot with the soldiers ready to evac, the patch on the soldiers arm looks sharper on the PS3 version than the Xbox 360 version. The stubble on his face is also sharper. The PS3 version appears to be a little washed out but the 360 version's color pop almost seems to hurt it. The same guys eye seems too look a little better in the 360 version. The bricks forming the wall in the park area seem darker on the 360 version with more color, but seem muddy and messy and finally in the shot with the semi, if you look at the curb it actually looks much cleaner on the PS3 build.
This video is particularly interesting. Again, the colors seem to pop on the Xbox 360 version, but it also looks washed out. The PC version is clear and sharp as day. But, the thing to really look at in the restroom scenes is actually the water. Watch the sink, and then the urinals. The PS3 version, similarly to PC there are three streams rather than the Xbox 360's single stream. On the Pier, look at the dock as well as the word Pier itself.
This last video is actually from IGN.com in their video comparison:
Now, it doesn't show it all the way though, but when the ceiling is crashing and the glass is shattering, perhaps the 360 version they didn't draw it out long enough, but you almost get the feeling the particle effects would be better with the PS3 version as the lighter shrapnel drifts slowly to the floor.
Finally, this video is a direct comparison of the games starting gameplay from 'Len's of Truth.'
With all said and done. The PC is clearly the way to go with a PC powerful enough to run it to its fullest. But with consoles, its nearly neck and neck. If I had to choose one, I would chose the PS3 going by the video's of the restroom and pier and the screen shots. The colors may pop more on the Xbox 360, but its almost as those its to the games destruction making it look muddy as well as the washed out look as though there's a film over the image. With lens of truth, the PlayStation 3 doesn't seem to suffer from the frame rate any more than the Xbox 360 version does.
